Visibility = Safety
Posted on Jun 1st, 2024
While parked vehicles and trash on the curb are an obvious safety concern, we often forget about our landscaping. As Hermitage homeowners, we are all responsible for ensuring that our landscaping does not encroach on street lamps, traffic signs, sidewalks or streets.
- Keep trees pruned enough so that limbs weighted down by rain don't sag any lower than 6 feet over sidewalks.
Pedestrians detouring into the street to avoid overgrown landscaping creates a safety concern.
- Ensure your landscaping does not block light from street lamps from reaching sidewalks and streets.
Dark areas due to light obstruction is a safety concern for neighbors walking after dark.
- If your yard contains a traffic sign, maintain full visibility of the sign to approaching motorists.
This may require pruning some limbs as high as 9 feet. Please be mindful that you could be held liable by an accident victim if they choose to designate you as a responsible third party due to a traffic sign that was obstructed by limbs from your tree.
If your yard has any of these issues, please resolve them as soon as you are able. Your neighbors will be very grateful.
Respectfully,
